So maybe prediction number 22 is what Ted Stevens was talking about. The series of tubes is Ted’s INTERNET!
I’m a fidgeter. When I have something in hand, I constantly toss it around, flipping it, catching it, juggling it, and whatever else I can do with it. I guess I’m just easy to entertain. At my current job as a couch pusher at a furniture store, I’m usually walking from one place to another with something in my hand. That thing could be a utility knife, a bottle of water, a hammer, a cardboard box, or any vast array of things.
A way to make the fidgiting more fun is to try and hit a target or get something to land on a target. Of course, tossing things into garbage cans (I’d like to transition into calling them rubbish bins one day) is always a fun one. Spitting gum is one of my finely tuned talents. Probably my most shining moment at my job was something that happened in the warehouse one day. I was standing in a spot that was about 25 feet (yeah, we measured it after the amazing feat) from a small, office desk size garbage can and about 15 feet from a bigger trash can. I hollered at a co-worker and asked him where I should spit my gum, so he said to go for the small one, which was out of my site, but I knew where it was by his desk. I accepted the challenge, rolled the gum into a nice ball, placed it on my tongue, inhaled, and launched that sucker. It was quiet, then I heard a slight ripple of the plastic bag that was in the can. Nothing but net! That started a pretty good streak of gum spitting.
Anyway, my point is that life is more fun if you try stuff like that from time to time. Right now at my work, I think there is one quarter, three water bottles, and four rubber bands in the rafters of the warehouse that will probably be there for many years after I leave. It’s funny, I don’t worry about getting caught doing those things because if someone is watching when one of them successfully lands on the target, they’re stunned and impressed. The rate of success is probably about 1%, but it’s totally worth it when it finally works out. I figure if I ever work in a cubicle jungle (won’t happen) my neighbors will have to get used to things flying over their heads or into their cubicles.
Finally, here’s a video made by some guys who seem to think exactly like me:
Finally! After nearly seven years of waiting, the Buffalo Bills will play a Monday Night Football game on Monday, October 8th, 2007! As a devout Bills fan, this is a small burst of light after they have successfully dealt off four of their best players so far this offseason (London Fletcher, Takeo Spikes, Nate Clements, and Willis McGahee). The game will take place in Buffalo, against the Dallas Cowboys. Buffalo’s had a couple rough games on national television against Dallas (think back to back Superbowls), but that’s all in the past. The last Monday night game they played in may have helped get them a seven year ban from Monday night. They lost to the Colts in 2000 by a score of 44-20. I’ll just be happy to see them play at home on national television. Go Bills!
A couple days ago, I finally went to send back the copy of The Wall I had from Netflix for over a month. So I went to the post office and dropped the envelope in the mail box. Later when I came home, I saw a DVD sleeve sitting on my counter, so I thought about when I’d watch my other movie, Life is Beautiful. I planned on watching it later that night. The time came to watch the movie, and when I went back to that sleeve, I took a closer look and saw that it said The Wall on it. I took the DVD out, and it really was the DVD I thought I had sent back, which meant that I sent the movie back that I hadn’t yet watched.
I felt like posting something, so I pulled one out of a note I set aside a while back on an idea for a post. This is a natural phenomena that I like to call the Rubber Banders. Since moving to St. George, Utah about 6 years ago, I’ve spent plenty of time on I-15, the main north-south freeway through Utah. It also goes right through St. George; very convenient.
In my travels on the freeway, I’ve noticed many styles of driving. You have the left lane only people, the I’m gonna go faster than everyone people, the I think the speed limit is way too fast people, and so on. This post is about people who subconsciously cling to one car from ten minutes up to the length of the entire trip.
From time to time I feel the need to just get away from everything for a little while. Tonight was one of those times. One of my favorite ways to get away is more of a mental state than physically getting away. I’ll take a music player of some sort (these days, my old ipod) and some good headphones, then go to a spot where I can go undisturbed. I prefer to be outside, usually at night, so I can lay back and look at the stars and my surroundings.
Roofs are a great spot to go to for this. Tonight I went out back of my condo and just sat on my deck that overlooks St. George. Once I’m in the right spot, I carefully pick an album to match my mood (shuffle is just no good in this type of situation) and listen to it straight through. Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon is my most frequently chosen album for these nights. Tonight’s was Trust by Low.
I recommend doing this from time to time. It’s a great way to clear your mind. Try out some different spots and see what works for you.
Haha, somebody took the same idea I had, only took it way further. I love it.
