Yesterday at work I had a pretty weird experience. I was unscrewing a light bulb that wasn’t working any more so I could replace it. As I unscrewed it, I saw a small bolt of light shoot from the filament to the glass that made up the bulb. Right then I felt that the bulb was very hot, but just on my thumb. Naturally I pulled away and looked at my thumb. There was a little white spot on it that I tried to brush off, but it wouldn’t come off. I realized that it was a tiny burn mark caused by the last effort bolt of light from the bulb. I felt the bulb and it wasn’t hot at all, so the heat I felt was just that bolt hitting my thumb.
After I was done swapping out the lights in that area, I looked at that bulb again. The glass was darker than all the other bulbs of its type, and there was also a hole in it! The hole was the same size as my burn mark. So when that bolt shot to the glass, it actually went right through it and got my thumb. Crazy stuff. I didn’t feel any electricity go through me, just that quick singe. Here’s a picture of the bulb, click it for a bigger view ay.

Yesterday, I got this nice paper taped to my front door. I’ll give a quick run down of where I live here. It’s in a condo neighborhood, in which all of the units belong to an HOA. The area has two entryways from the main street. About two weeks ago, the entry closest to the street, I’ll call it entry one (the lower right entry on the picture), was torn apart, and hasn’t been repaired. I don’t know why it got torn apart, perhaps to install a gutter that runs under curbing instead of the large dip that used to be there. Well, that has sat there untouched for about two weeks. I live in the J building there on the bottom row, so you can see the inconvenience this has already caused me and my neighbors.
Now, this paper I mentioned. It has the drawing below on the back side, and explains that over the next few days, the pavement in the neighborhood will be sealed. I won’t go into how unnecessary I think this sealing is at the moment, for I have other issues. The paper lines out that in order to “allow maximum alternative parking solutions,” this will be done over a three day period, in sections. The planned “Day 1″ closes entry two (the upper right entry on the picture) for a 24 hour period. This means that entry one will be closed due to construction that has been apparently forgotten, and entry two will be closed due to sealing. This of course would cause everybody in the neighborhood to have zero vehicular access to the outside world. That’s awesome.

The HOA is mostly populated with geriatrics, so who knows, maybe this logic has escaped their ever fading minds. We’ll see. Luckily, I’ll be forced into not being trapped…at least I think. I leave for work before 7am, the planned starting time tomorrow, so I may have no option but to park on the main street upon my return. I’m hoping for the sealing to be postponed for a week to allow the other construction to finish before all this chaos takes place. If that’s the case, I’ll miss the whole thing because I’ll be in Florida, sweet!

I suppose most readers of this here blog have used T9 predictive text messaging on their phones. One thing that happens from time to time is we all send a message with something like That sounds book, when we really meant to say That sounds cool. Well, some of my friends and I decided it’s more fun to just leave it on that first word that T9 picks and send the message anyway. A couple examples we discovered: Move it or lose it becomes Note it or lord it. Dont (no apostrophe for this one) be scared becomes Foot be sacred. The possibilities are endless! And if you type woohoo, it becomes zonino. Oh, one more that baffles me. Sometimes I reply to questions with a simple yep. When I’m cycling through the possible choices, wdp shows up just before yep, weird.
Here’s a site I found where this phenomena is discussed: Saussure, Predictive Text, Cycling Awake and the word ‘Book’

Here’s a quick tip to make life more enjoyable. I learned the trick from my friend Craig. When you’re about to eat, put your glasses (the drinking kind, not the seeing kind) in the freezer while you’re getting the food ready. By the time you’re ready to eat, you can pour the drink into a nice chilled glass. It just makes it a little more enjoyable. I’m totally hooked on it now, good stuff.

A couple days ago, I finally went to send back the copy of The Wall I had from Netflix for over a month. So I went to the post office and dropped the envelope in the mail box. Later when I came home, I saw a DVD sleeve sitting on my counter, so I thought about when I’d watch my other movie, Life is Beautiful. I planned on watching it later that night. The time came to watch the movie, and when I went back to that sleeve, I took a closer look and saw that it said The Wall on it. I took the DVD out, and it really was the DVD I thought I had sent back, which meant that I sent the movie back that I hadn’t yet watched.

Kind of a funny thing here. I’ve put a lot of time into getting licensed to be a loan officer, and have yet to close a loan. Another business adventure I’ve thought about trying is a little search engine optimization. I mentioned that to Keb, a web designer friend of mine, a month ago and as of today, I’ve already got my first client.
Keb and I talked about how he gets a few calls each week from both clients and cold callers who are looking for somebody to help them get traffic to their website. He has had nobody to refer them to, and gets a bit frustrated by that. I have one year experience in SEO as part of my time at SouthernUtah.com, and like to tinker with it on other sites like this. It interests me, and it’s fun to teach people, so I figured I’d try it out.
