Eggs in One Basket

1

Yep, another post about eggs, weird! Well, not really, but kind of sort of and stuff. My days at Boulevard Home Furnishings are numbered. Finally! That number is 7 at the moment. As in after 7 more days of work, I’ll be done there. I’ve been hoping to get out of there for about 6 months now, so it’s about due time.

I’m now putting all my hopes of earning enough money to pay the bills into my new little venture with mortgages. I’ve got a small taste of what it’s like to get a loan done, and it feels pretty good. At the moment, I’m hoping I’ll be able to do alright without being a schmoozing schmuck, since I’m not really into that sort of thing. I am okay with the fact that I will probably be playing more golf however. Golf is fun, and if I don’t get any better at it over the next decade or so, that’s fine; I’ll need something to do when I’m old.

Anyway, just thought I’d let my huge fan base (huge, like slowly approaching the tens!) know what little ol’ Billy is up to these days.

Egg On My Finger

1

About a week ago I got a sliver (maybe multiple slivers) from something at work. I don’t remember much about it now, but it went right under the edge of my index finger fingernail. I tried to get them out, but it was plastic (I think) and I couldn’t even see the slivers. I forgot about it and now a week later, my finger has begun to get irritated. So it’s obviously still in there. Last night I searched all over the INTERNET to see if I could find a miraculous way to remove slivers. I found this: Yahoo Answers. That sounds pretty wild, egg yolk and salt. I found another salve online that has all kinds of other stuff in it, but is still just supposed to be good at lifting out slivers.

So I tried the egg thing about 10 minutes ago. We’ll see if it works. If it does, that’s one of the most awesome and random home remedies I know of. Who in the world came up with such a thing?

Update: I took the egg/bandaid combo off after about a half hour due to slimyness. After work, I came home and soaked the finger in some hot water for a couple minutes (adhering to the advice of a wise woman at work) then got the tweezers and got ready to start digging. After just a few swipes at the area, a brown sliver of significant length emerged. I didn’t even have to grab it with the tweezers, it just stuck to one of the prongs. I thought the sliver was something clear, but that’ll do. Now I wait to see if the pain and swelling go away.

BLAZERS GET 2007 #1 OVERALL DRAFT PICK

0

Holy cow!!! I screamed so loud when the #2 pick was announced (Seattle, making Portland #1) that I’m surprised no glass in my house broke. They had a 5.3% chance to get the #1 overall pick, and they got it!!! Last year they had the best chance to go #1 and didn’t get it. That draft was much more spread out talent-wise though, and they still managed to get Brandon Roy, who ended up being the Rookie of the Year.

My prediction: The Blazers’ playoff famine is over! If they don’t win a championship by 2012, something’s fishy. I imagine they’ll take Greg Oden. GO BLAZERS!!!

I Found a Snake Man

2

Today after work, I walked up the road in front of my place to check the mail. I noticed something move by my foot, and it turned out to be a snake. It was right in front of my garage, so I got a box and caught the sucker! I’ve never seen one patterned this way before and I have no idea what kind it is. It’s only about 8″ to 10″ long, and not too big around. The orange is very vivid in the sun. Straight stripes, only orange and black. Any clues? (the picture was taken with my camcorder since I have no proper camera, sorry about the poor quality)

Sheepskin sandals. Sweet. Why haven’t I thought of that? These things look super comfy, and supposedly keep your feet both warm in cold weather, and cool in warm weather! Crazy! Any of my multitudes of readers, feel free to buy me a pair. I’ve got size 13 foot. Thanks!

(I think all the readers of this blog know where I live, so I’ll leave that part out :) )

Google Docs

Check this out!

Google Docs

Awesome, I had no idea this existed. Google Docs acts as a place to work on text documents and spreadsheets. I just found this a few minutes ago, so I don’t know too much about it, but it looks pretty sweet. You can export files to be compatible with Microsoft and Open Office, or as PDFs, RTFs, HTML, or plain text.

Obvious benefits are many. One comes to mind. A friend of mine teaches at a school. He gets bugged when students submit assignments in Open Office format because he doesn’t have that installed on his computer. With Google Docs, he could upload the file, then save it as whatever type of format he prefers. For anybody who deals with a lot of paperwork and a lot of people with different preferences, I can see this as a great tool to speed things up. It’s also a great way to centralize your work so you can access it from where ever you may be in the INTERNET.

I plan on trying this out. In my new venture into the mortgage industry, I think this will be a great tool to use to create PDFs and share spreadsheets with not so tech-savvy people. I can just send them a link and I won’t get any “My computer won’t open it” type of complaints. Good stuff.

Hole in a Bulb

0

Yesterday at work I had a pretty weird experience. I was unscrewing a light bulb that wasn’t working any more so I could replace it. As I unscrewed it, I saw a small bolt of light shoot from the filament to the glass that made up the bulb. Right then I felt that the bulb was very hot, but just on my thumb. Naturally I pulled away and looked at my thumb. There was a little white spot on it that I tried to brush off, but it wouldn’t come off. I realized that it was a tiny burn mark caused by the last effort bolt of light from the bulb. I felt the bulb and it wasn’t hot at all, so the heat I felt was just that bolt hitting my thumb.

After I was done swapping out the lights in that area, I looked at that bulb again. The glass was darker than all the other bulbs of its type, and there was also a hole in it! The hole was the same size as my burn mark. So when that bolt shot to the glass, it actually went right through it and got my thumb. Crazy stuff. I didn’t feel any electricity go through me, just that quick singe. Here’s a picture of the bulb, click it for a bigger view ay.
