Don’t Steal Bikes

Jeremy and His R1So, this fellow I work with named Jeremy has a nice Yamaha R1 that he likes a little bit. Most days at work I hear about his plans to turbo it, and the troubles he runs into while trying to get it done. When he does turbo his R1, he wants to change the lettering to RT1 or something, so a passer by can tell it’s a turbo bike.

Yesterday morning he woke up to find that his bike had moved from his front porch to his driveway. After checking it out a bit more, he found that someone had tried to hot wire the bike to steal it. The only problem is that the steering was locked and they couldn’t have gone anywhere even if they did get it started.

Obviously, this upset him. Apparently he lives in a pretty trashy part of town (actually, the town of Middleton is pretty much all trailers and white trash and such), so he figures any of his Mexican or mulleted neighbors may have been the failed criminal. Anyway, I told him I’d blog about it for good measure.

He wanted me to use my super human INTERNET power to spread the word that if you happen to have a Yamaha R1, get an alarm system, lock it up, and keep it in your garage. Otherwise, you might wake up to porch full of nothing but empty beer cans and chairs!

80s Kids Grown Up

Lately I’ve noticed a cool kind of movement. It seems as though people my age have begun to gain the knowledge and ability to bring back some entertainment we enjoyed as kids, and I think it’s great! The things that made me think of this are movies such as the Transformers Movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, How to Eat Fried Worms, and I recently even saw some Mad Libs have recently made a comeback.

I think this is great. Over the past few years, I’ve been trying to collect movies that we watched as kids growing up. Naturally, when watching those, I think “Man, they just don’t make them like they used to.” But now with these new versions of old stuff, it’s like living a new and improved childhood, while still having access to the originals. It really doesn’t get much better!

Now I’m hoping to see some other movies come about such as M.A.S.K. and GOBots. Those two would be awesome. I’m sure there are others as well. Maybe move of The Whipping Boy?

Tape Deck for Your Computer

Got a bunch of awesome mix tapes from the high school days? I used to, not sure where they are anymore. I think my Ma & Pa have some pretty sweet recordings of me and my sisters doing our own version of The People’s Court on some good ol’ cassette tapes. Anyway, I mention these because ThinkGeek has a cassette tape drive for a PC. Pretty awesome stuff.

Phone and Sleep

I’ve discovered that I have an uncanny ability to answer my phone while I am asleep. I think the first time I did it was about a year ago, and within a week, I think I did it three or four more times. It hadn’t happened in a while, then today I was taking a nap on my couch, and next thing I knew, I was on the phone.

A friend of mine had called to see if I wanted to play tennis. I don’t own a racket, so I accurately told her that and she kept talking for a little while. I think I was able to carry on a somewhat normal conversation. Later on, I got to thinking and realized that I didn’t remember answering the phone. So about an hour after she had called me (I usually take an hour to fully wake up), I called her back to fill her in on how I answered the phone. She agreed that I was probably asleep at the time because of how I sounded. The other times it happened, I also called the people back and they all agreed on the same thing.

So far, it hasn’t gotten me in trouble, but I imagine it could lead to something bad if it was an emergency call or something. I have no idea how long I talk before I wake up in these conversations. I think I developed the skill when I was in high school. My Mom would attempt to wake me up before school and I eventually got to where I could convince her I was awake, only to find out later on that I didn’t remember our conversations at all because I was really asleep. Apparently I can be pretty convincing when I’m asleep. I think I like having that skill.

Until it gets me in trouble, I’ll gladly multitask while I’m asleep!
